Overview

The International Student Program in SD8 (School District 8) comprises the small towns of Nelson and Creston, British Columbia and offers the opportunity to study alongside Canadian students in British Columbia's public education system.

Kootenay Lake District Schools provide a wide range of academic, technical, applied arts, career preparation and business courses. ESL support classes for international students are vital for students to gain the vocabulary and fluency necessary for school success. After school hours the District provides free TOEFL support classes.

A highlight of the District is the successful selection of host families for students. Being a small city, the District has a detailed and extensive knowledge of the families and can select the most appropriate family for each student.
